Our world faces enormous challenges: curbing climate change, generating and storing clean energy, creating sustainable mobility, developing smart cities, and using artificial intelligence responsibly. Solving these issues for the future requires science that can work freely, independently, and excellently. However, basic government funding only enables what is necessary—not what is possible.

This is exactly where the TU Wien Foundation comes in. Since 2018, we have been raising private, unrestricted funds that give the university the freedom it needs. Our brand promise is: We enable a better world for future generations through transparent, sustainable, and courageous research.

We finance research laboratories, endowed professorships, scholarship programs, and awards so that the best minds can boldly break new ground. Because every great discovery begins with an idea that needs room to grow.

We see ourselves as bridge builders between scientific excellence and practical application. With your support, we bring research from the laboratories into the world—where it has a real impact: in business, society, and for future generations.

The focus is on independence and freedom in research. Because only when researchers are able to think freely discoveries can be made that have the potential to change our world. Examples of this include Noble Prize winners such as Ferenz Krausz and Anton Zeilinger, who where influenced by their time at the TU Wien – they demonstrate how important freedom is for groundbreaking discoveries.
